In the recent years, the Low-Level laser Therapy (LLLT) or Cold Laser has become increasingly popular modality in Physical Therapy. The light emitted from the Laser has 3 unique optical characteristics:
- Monochromaticity: means one color of narrow range wavelengths.
- Coherence: means the beam of photons is moving in the same direction at the same wavelength.
- Collimation: means parallel rays to maintain good focusability.
These characters have many biological effects that help in treating a wide variety of conditions such as joints arthritis, bursitis, tendinopathy, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, ligament sprain, and scar healing. Some of these biological effects are stimulating the synthesis of fibroblast and collagen in the damaged tissue, also the LLLT has a metabolic effect that increase the production of a specific enzyme called adenosine Tri-Phosphate (ATP) that has a great ability to remove waste products from affected part.
