Mechanical Spinal Traction
The Mechanical Spinal Traction is a distraction force applied to the spine in a manner as to separate or attempt to separate vertebral bodies and elongate spinal structures.
Prior to treatment, your Max Rehab therapist will carefully evaluate your condition to determine the type of traction, the force of the distraction, and the duration of the treatment.
The main purpose of the Mechanical Spinal Traction is to pull the vertebrae apart, little by little, from each other to create more space for nerves where they exit the spinal column or to relieve pressure on the cartilage disks between the vertebral bodies or on the small spinal joints.
The Mechanical Spinal Traction has found to be very effective to reduce symptoms of cervical (neck) or lumbar (back) spinal compressions, that will be an appropriate part of a treatment plan for the following conditions:
- Herniated Nucleus Pulposus (disc herniation or protrusion)
- Degenerative Disc Disease
- Discogenic Pain
- Joint Stiffness (hypomobility)
- Nerve Root Impingement
- Muscle Spasm (tightness and lack of nomal spine motion)
- Subacute or Chronic Joint Pain
